The first month of my adventure: Cape Town
Well, there I was at the airport starting the greatest adventure of my life so far. Going to South Africa to do my graduation project in George Hospital. But to begin I would be in Cape Town for a month; the first two weeks to get used to the new culture and to enjoy a little time and the other two weeks to work on my project before I went to George!
In this first month I saw a lot of beautiful different places. I went to beaches, to Kirstenbosch, to open air cinema’s to see The Notebook and Mamma Mia 2, I went to two beautiful plays in Magnet Theatre and the Baxter Theatre, Bookaap, a crocodille farm, a lion sanctuary and many more… I was having the time of my life with lovely people who I hope to keep in my life for a long time!
Next to doing these things I also worked very hard on my thesis and my project. I read two books, 5 articles and made a start with my pitch I have to do on the 3th of April. I will have to show my school what I learned in four years; about myself (my values and what I find important), but also about me as a professional and how I view our society. I wanted to do this in a creative way that fits with the place I was. I got inspired by all the beautiful women in Africa and their clothing. I saw the fabrics in different stores and thought that would be awesome! So I started going to shops that made their own clothes and had these beautiful fabrics. The prints they had represent some of my qualities and situations in my professional experiences over the years in Social Work. I am very excited to show you on the 3th of April what these fabrics have become, so stay tuned for that 🙂
One of the most challenging part in those weeks was climbing the Table Mountain. I never climbed a mountain before in my life and I had a very hard time getting to the top, but when I finally got there (after 3:30 hours) I felt so proud of myself. I made it to the top and no one could take that away from me. And this is what I want to remember in everything I do for the next couple of months; It will be hard sometimes (and of course fun as well with a beautiful view ;)) but I made it to the top before, and I will again, and no one will take this amazing time away from me!
