I am a Midwifery Lecturer at WCCN at the George Campus in South Africa. I am part of the amazing CASO team. Our specific package is Empower the Caregiver. I attended my first CASO meeting from 12-16 March 2018 in Cape Town as a ‘newbie’. What an absolutely amazing experience. I have met the most incredibly talented people. I thought that I would not be able to have any positive contributions but were proven wrong from the first day.
As a Registered Nurse, I longed to be part of such a project for many years. A project that will let me grow personally and professionally, and here I am busy helping to develop a MOOC on Leadership. The best of all is that we can really have a positive influence on patients as well as healthcare workers lives on an international level.
There are other amazing events taking place because of the CASO project. I attended a train the trainer workshop on SBAR and CRM presented by Stef Janssens and Veronique Fremont. I am truly excited and can visualise positive changes in our healthcare system in South Africa if we can implement and use SBAR and CRM at all levels of healthcare and give these training from student level upwards. This is also the topic of my ‘Masters’ degree, I am therefore even more excited.
I want to thank each and every person on this project for all the amazing work they do. I am truly privileged to be part of this International team.
